In Tip Tip, the protagonist Kavya negotiates her own rates, manages a Telegram channel for fans, and uses a payment app to receive direct tips—presenting bar dancing as part of a “gig entertainment portfolio.”
By 2025, the figure of the bar dancer in Indian cinema—long relegated to item songs or tragic stereotypes—undergoes a radical transformation, particularly within the short film format. This paper analyzes how Indian and global short films (2023–2025) reimagine bar dancers not as moral warnings but as complex economic agents, digital-era performers, and lifestyle navigators. Drawing on 15 short films from India, France, Brazil, and South Korea, the study maps shifting production contexts (OTT platforms, film festivals, YouTube micro-genres) and thematic evolutions: from survival sex work to artistic entrepreneurship, from stigma to street-style fame, and from local nightlife to transnational digital fandom.
