Canon G3400 Reset -

Step 1: Enter Maintenance Mode This is the hardest part. You cannot reset the waste counter if the printer is in normal mode.

If the printer turns on normally, you failed. Try again. The timing is critical.

Step 2: Run the Service Tool

Step 3: Verify Turn the printer off, wait 10 seconds, and turn it back on. The error should be gone.

After refilling the tanks, the printer still shows ink as "Empty". You need to reset the waste ink counter or ink level memory.

Method using buttons (software reset):

Method using service tool (for waste ink pad counter): The G3400 has a waste ink absorber that eventually fills up, causing an E08 or 5B00 error. To reset:

  • Run Service Tool → select "Waste Ink Counter" → set to "Main" and "Platen" → click "Set".
  • Turn printer OFF/ON.

    The G3400 uses a bottle-based ink system rather than cartridges. While this saves money, the printer still counts how much ink it thinks has been used. If you refill the tanks, the printer may still warn you that ink is low unless you reset the counter.
