The TS9550 uses the popular (and pricey) PGI-580 / CLI-581 cartridges. During our two-week heavy test (30 A3 prints, 50 A4 documents), we used 30% of the ink. That is actually efficient for Canon, but refills hurt the wallet. Pro tip: The printer supports "MegaTank" style aftermarket cartridges, but for warranty safety, consider the XL variants.
| Method | Test action | |--------|-------------| | USB | Print via direct cable | | Wi-Fi | Printer reports signal strength; print from phone (Canon PRINT app) | | Ethernet (if available) | Ping printer IP from PC | | SD card / USB flash drive | Insert a JPEG – print from front panel |
If you are replacing a laser printer, note the difference. The TS9550 is not "instant."
Verdict: Acceptable for a photo-centric printer. It struggles slightly with large 4K resolution prints (A3 takes ~3 minutes), but the wait is rewarded by the output.
The TS9550 uses Canon’s FINE print head with 5,472 nozzles. For a test, we used Canon’s own Glossy II paper and generic matte paper.
The TS9550 is a five-ink beast (more on that later), but it also tries to be the hub of your creative studio.
