Abstract
In the age of digital reproduction, the JPG image has become a primary vehicle for constructing and consuming ideals of beauty, success, and leisure. Focusing on the phenomenon of digitally circulated photographs of attractive women—colloquially referred to in Indonesian internet culture as cewek cantik jpg—this paper examines how such images mediate contemporary understandings of work (e.g., influencer labor, branding), lifestyle (e.g., aspirational consumption), and entertainment (e.g., viral aesthetics). Drawing on visual culture theory and platform studies, the paper argues that these images are not passive objects but active tools in negotiating gender, labor, and identity in digital economies.
