You are not done. Close the "Waste Ink Pad Counter" window. Back on the main menu, click "Initial Settings" or "EEPROM Data Copy."
Wait for the printer to become idle. Turn the printer OFF, wait 10 seconds, and turn it ON.
If you reset the counter but do not change the pad, the printer thinks it is empty, but the physical pad is soaked. Eventually, ink will leak out the bottom of your printer, ruining your desk and potentially shorting the circuit board.
| Aspect | Recommendation | |--------|----------------| | Home user with mild usage | Perform pad cleaning + reset once as an emergency. | | Office / heavy printing | Replace waste ink kit professionally. | | Resale of printer | Disclose the reset; do not sell with saturated pads. | | Environmental | Waste ink is hazardous; do not discard pad in regular trash. | EPSON Adjustment Program Reset L380-L383-L385-L485
The EPSON Adjustment Program is a powerful service tool that, when used correctly, can restore functionality to L380, L383, L385, and L485 printers suffering from a false “end of life” error due to the waste ink counter. However, it is not a permanent hardware fix. Without physical maintenance of the waste ink system, users risk irreversible damage. For long-term reliability, resetting the counter should be paired with replacing or cleaning the ink pads. Unauthorized use voids warranty and may violate EPSON’s terms of service.
Q: Will this reset my ink levels? A: No. The L380-L485 use EcoTank visible ink bottles. There is no chip to reset. You simply refill the tank. The Adjustment Program does not affect ink level reporting on these models.
Q: Can I use this on a Mac? A: No. The genuine EPSON Adjustment Program is Windows-only. Mac users must use a virtual machine (Parallels/VMware) or borrow a Windows laptop. You are not done
Q: How many times can I reset? A: Technically, unlimited times. However, after 2-3 resets, the physical pad becomes a biological hazard (moldy ink). Always change the pad every second reset.
Q: My L485 has a "Fatal Error" – can this fix it? A: Possibly. If the error is "Service Request 0x9A" or "0x69" (waste pad full), yes. If the error is "0x51" (printhead failure), no. The Adjustment Program cannot fix burned nozzles.
Drill a small hole in the back of the printer, route a silicone tube from the pump to an external plastic bottle. This means you never need to reset again because the ink drains outside. Wait for the printer to become idle
Click the Read button. You will see two (or three) counters:
If your printer is working, block automatic firmware updates. New EPSON firmware (version after 2022) actively blocks third-party adjustment tools. If you are on new firmware, only WIC Reset Utility (paid) will work.
