A: Yes. A misconfigured license server or corrupted sw_d.lic file can produce the same "Invalid handle" message. In that case, contact your IT administrator to restart the SolidWorks Licensing Server service.
If Error 6 persists, Windows 11 is blocking a critical registry write. Bypass it via Safe Mode.
Run the SOLIDWORKS activator in Safe Mode. Because many security drivers are not loaded, Error 6 will often disappear.
Activate successfully, then restart normally.

Windows 11, by default, allocates higher base addresses for processes. Legacy activators not flagged as LAA may attempt pointer arithmetic that wraps around, resulting in Error 6. Specifically, an activator trying to allocate a buffer for a license patch may request a negative size due to an integer underflow, incorrectly reporting as Error 6.
