Heroes 5 Widescreen Fix 2021
The original Widescreen Fixer software stopped being updated around 2018. By 2021, the community had migrated to a more robust tool: BlueYoshi's Heroes V Widescreen Patch (found on GitHub or Heroes Community forums).
What it does: It hooks into the H5_Game.exe process and modifies the DirectX calls in real-time. It forces the game to render at your native resolution (16:9, 16:10, or 21:9) and, crucially, adjusts the Field of View (FOV) . Without the FOV adjustment, you see the "fish-eye" effect on the edges. This patch fixes that perfectly.
How to apply it (Recap for 2021 users):
The definitive fix for Heroes V (and its expansions: Hammers of Fate & Tribes of the East) was updated in 2020-2021. Do not use older tools like "WideScreen Utility" from 2008 — they break the minimap and UI clicks.

By 2021, three primary solutions existed, each with its own level of success. The "definitive" fix was a patchwork of tools, but one name stood out: The “HoMM V Widescreen & UI Fix” by LeFeu (updated for 2021).
Yes, but with a caveat. For 2560x1080 or 3440x1440 monitors, the HD Mod 2021 build worked wonders. However, the Town Screen (the flying camera around the castle) would often show the "void" outside the castle walls because the game was never designed to see that far out. heroes 5 widescreen fix 2021
The 2021 community fix was to use the "Classic Town View" mod, which replaces the 3D flythrough with the static, painted 2D backgrounds from Heroes 3, which scale beautifully to any width.
The Pacifist74 Widescreen Fix (v1.2+) is the only stable, complete solution for Heroes V on modern monitors. It is safe, open source, and works on Windows 10/11, Linux (Proton), and Steam Deck. The original Widescreen Fixer software stopped being updated
Do not use the old "H5_Wide.exe" or "UAC_Wide.exe" from 2008 — they are broken on modern systems.
