[SCENE OPENS]
INT. "KNIFE FIGHT" KITCHEN - NIGHT
The set is industrial gothic. Knives hang from chains. The audience wears masks.
HOST (V.O.) Three minutes remain. Chef Roman... your lamb is raw. Chef Mia... your sauce has broken. And Chef Jun-ho... you've somehow set a water bath on fire.
Laughter from the masked audience.
CHEF JUN-HO (40s, stoic) douses a flaming immersion circulator with baking soda. CHEF MIA (30s, frantic) stirs furiously. CHEF ROMAN (50s, silver fox energy) hasn't moved in thirty seconds.
CHEF ROMAN (whispering to his own hands) It's not possible. I blanched the bones at 4 AM. I measured the gelatin to the gram. It should be... perfect.
He stares at a single, wobbling crimson panna cotta on a slate plate. It looks like a crime scene.
CHEF MIA (screaming across the kitchen) Your terrine is weeping, Roman! Just plate the damn thing!
Roman doesn't move. The camera pushes in. He picks up the plate, walks past the judging table, and heads directly toward the DISQUALIFICATION DOOR (a red steel slab that hisses steam).
HOST (O.C.) (genuinely alarmed) Roman. Chef. The door is for active hazards. Fire. Bleeding. That sort of thing.
Roman stops. He turns. The room is dead silent.
CHEF ROMAN I'm not disqualified. I'm confessing.
Gasps. Mia drops a whisk.
CHEF ROMAN (CONT'D) The night my restaurant lost its third star—I didn't lose it. I killed it. On purpose.
Close up on HOST (60s, a legendary chef turned TV villain). She removes her reading glasses slowly.
HOST Say that again into the microphone.
CHEM ROMAN My investors were laundering money through the wine list. I found out. They said if I resigned quietly, they'd pay off my debts. If I fought? They'd ruin my son's residency application.
He holds up the panna cotta. It shivers like a threat.
CHEF ROMAN (CONT'D) So I served a frozen duck breast. I "accidentally" microwaved a foam. I made sure the critics saw me cry. I made them pity a fraud.
He sets the plate down. It slides toward the Host.
CHEF ROMAN (CONT'D) That's the real crime, isn't it? Not the sabotage. The performance of failure. I was an actor. And I was very, very good.
Long beat. The Host picks up a spoon. She taps the panna cotta. It quivers but holds.
HOST (softly) It's perfect.
CHEF ROMAN I know.
He smiles. It's the smile of a man who has just set a bomb and decided to stay in the room.
HOST (to the producers, off-camera) Cut the feed.
CHEF MIA (whispering to Jun-ho) Did... did he just win by losing?
CHEF JUN-HO (first words of the episode) He just changed the game.
