Because HP focuses on current operating systems, their official support page pushes the “HP Smart” application. This app is designed for Windows 10, 11, and modern mobile OSes. It often refuses to install on Windows 7, leaving users stranded.

However, the underlying print technology is standard. Windows 7 comes with a built-in driver database (via Windows Update) that includes generic HP Deskjet drivers. The trick is forcing Windows to recognize the HP DeskJet 2700 as a compatible device.
