Three years pass.
Maya meets Dev’s mother at a train station (where the film began), and Dev’s mother encourages Maya to find Dev. Maya rushes to the train station and spots Dev. The story begins on a rainy night in New York, just before Maya’s wedding to Rishi. She meets Dev by chance at a park. Dev advises her that marriage is not a joke and if she isn't sure, she shouldn't go through with it. Despite her doubts, Maya marries Rishi. Three years pass
Four years later, Dev and Maya meet again when Dev’s son, Arjun, joins Maya’s school. The two bond over their mutual unhappiness. They realize they are in similar situations: both are trapped in marriages where they feel misunderstood and unloved. Despite their efforts to save their marriages, Dev and Maya begin falling in love with each other. They find solace, comfort, and understanding in one another that they cannot find in their spouses. They start an emotional affair, which eventually turns physical. They feel guilty but cannot stay away from each other.
Rishi’s father, Samarjit (Amitabh Bachchan), a flamboyant and carefree man, suspects something is amiss and tries to bring joy back into the family, but the tension between the couples grows.
The film is set in New York City and revolves around two troubled marriages.
