A pressure plate alone will not retract the piston. You need a pulse that turns the piston on, then off quickly. Connect redstone dust from the pressure plate to a simple monostable circuit (a comparator in subtraction mode with a single redstone torch pulse limiter). This circuit converts the plate’s constant signal into a short, sharp “blip.” Connect the output of this circuit to the sticky piston below.

When the panda steps on the plate:

Place a bamboo shoot on top of the andesite block. Lead the panda into the enclosure. Wait for it to start eating. The moment the panda is centered on the andesite, pull the lever.

Pro Tip: If the panda is sitting (Lazy panda), it won’t trigger correctly. You need a playful or worried panda. Use a splash potion of swiftness to make it stand up.

To push the panda all the way to the top of a two-block-high pen, you need a stack of pistons. Place a second sticky piston directly above the first (separated by a one-block air gap). Connect it to the same monostable circuit but with a repeater set to 2 ticks of delay. This staggered timing creates a “crawling hand” effect: the lower piston pushes the panda up, then a half-second later, the upper piston pushes the panda again.

Repeat this for as many vertical blocks as needed. For a standard 3-block-high pen (panda height is 1.5 blocks, so two pushes suffice for ground-to-pen-floor), two pistons are enough. The panda will emerge at the top level, exactly where you want it—inside a bamboo enclosure.

Pandas spawn in Jungles, but in Lovely Craft, only the Brown Pandas (the rare variant) have a 5% chance to drop the Panda Top. Normal black-and-white pandas drop a "Lazy Bamboo Hat" instead. You need the brown one.

Transport the panda using a boat or lead to your trap location. Build the trap near your base, not in the jungle (hostile mobs will ruin the capture).

Place a single block of Polished Andesite on the ground. This is the trigger block. According to Lovely Craft’s hidden metadata, only pistons interacting with a panda on this block count for the Panda Top drop.

Surround this andesite block with solid blocks to create a 2-block tall, 3x3 enclosure. Leave one side open for the panda to enter.

Lovely Craft requires the pistons to extend and retract exactly once. If they stay extended, the panda suffocates. If they cycle too fast, the server doesn’t register the “capture.”

Build an observer clock:

This creates a single, perfect 2-tick pulse. The pistons will extend, squeeze, and instantly retract. The panda will take zero damage.

A compact, semi-automatic piston trap called “Panda Top” that uses sticky pistons, pressure detection, and a hidden drop/collection chamber to capture or immobilize mobs/players and funnel items to a chest. Intended for survival or creative base defense and mob farming. Compact footprint: 7×7, height 5. Works in Java Edition (1.16+) and later.

Here is the secret that 90% of players miss: In Lovely Craft, the Panda Top does not drop on death.

If you kill a panda with a sword, bow, or even a fall trap, you will get bamboo and maybe a slimeball. The Panda Top requires a "Non-Violent Capture" tag. The server’s custom plugin checks for two things:

The game interprets this as "the panda was caught in a mechanical press," which triggers the rare loot table containing the Panda Top (a wearable panda head that actually eats bamboo when you feed it).

Thus, the only reliable method is a Lovely Craft piston trap.
