For the average player, this collection was a dream. Instead of hunting down individual ROMs (which is a legal and logistical maze), you downloaded one massive archive. You unzipped it, launched mameplus.exe, and were greeted with a scrollable list of 6,000 games, complete with box art and descriptions.
The "Deluxe" aspect shines in the details. Playing Galaga? The screen is framed by a digital version of the original cabinet’s painted bezel. Loading Street Fighter II? The control layout automatically maps to your USB fight stick. This level of polish was rare for early 2010s emulation packs.
Many of the titles included in the 6000 ROM set belong to defunct companies or are "orphan works"—games where the copyright holder is unknown or untraceable. Without the piracy ecosystem, many of these titles would be lost to bit-rot or hardware decay, as official rights holders often lack the incentive to maintain or re-release them.
