Meganz Links

A "meganz link" is a URL structure used to access files or folders stored on MEGA’s encrypted cloud servers. The base domain is mega.nz, but the link typically contains a unique identifier and often a cryptographic key.

Anatomy of a MEGAnz Link:

There are two primary formats you will encounter:

  • Folder Link: https://mega.nz/folder/UniqueFolderID#DecryptionKey

  • Quick Note: Some links appear without the # and key. These are either "public" folders (rare) or links where the key is included in the URL fragment (client-side only). If you have a link without a key, you cannot access the data.

A common myth: "I didn't upload the file; I only shared the link." If you generate a MEGAnz link to a file you uploaded, you are the distributor under the law. If you share a link to someone else's copyrighted file, you are facilitating infringement.

Best Practice: Only create MEGAnz links for files you own the rights to, or for which you have explicit permission to share.

Unlike standard cloud links (Google Drive or Dropbox), MEGA links are unique because the decryption key is built into the URL.

This structure is why people often refer to them as "MEGA secure links."
