If you own a genuine Mercedes SDconnect or a compatible Openport 2.0 (J2534) device, you can run diagnostics inside the VM:
Note: WIS alone does not perform live diagnostics. For live data, you need a separate XENTRY VM. However, many bundled "Mercedes WIS VMs" also include DAS/XENTRY 12.2022.
| Problem | Solution |
|---------|----------|
| WIS database won’t start | Run Start SQL Server manually from desktop |
| Browser shows “404” | Check Apache service; run start_apache.bat |
| Slow VM performance | Allocate more RAM/CPU; defrag host SSD |
| No sound/screen resolution | Reinstall VMware Tools |
| Date error (license expired) | Set VM system date back to 2020–2022 (temporary) |
| USB diagnostic interface not seen | In VMware: VM → Removable Devices → Connect USB |
Assumes a licensed VM image is obtained from Mercedes/XENTRY portal.
WIS runs via a local web server. Open IE as Administrator and add http://localhost/wis and http://127.0.0.1/wis to Trusted Sites. Enable ActiveX controls (WIS needs these to display diagrams).
Older WIS versions (pre-2015) had time bombs if the system date was beyond the license expiration. Modern images (2020+) are patched to ignore date checks. However, if you get a "License expired" error, set the VM's BIOS date manually to 2019.
Yes. Use VMware Fusion (paid) or VirtualBox (free). The .vmdk disk format is compatible. Ensure your Mac has at least 16GB RAM.
