Unlike Nexus Mods, which runs every single ZIP file through ClamAV or similar, MinorPatch relies on user reports. A malicious actor can upload a mod claiming to fix a game bug that actually contains a keylogger. Because the site is less famous, these files may stay online for weeks until someone reports them.

MinorPatch archives "minor patches" for old games. Some of these files were uploaded in 2015 or 2018. Old DLL files or executable patches might be falsely flagged by modern antivirus (false positives), but they could also contain unpatched exploits from years ago. Running a 2016 mod on Windows 11 is dangerous. minorpatch.com safe

"I've downloaded about 30 Sims 4 'minor fixes' from MinorPatch. Never got a virus, but I use uBlock Origin and always check the file size. If a '5kb texture mod' is actually 2MB, I delete it."u/SimsVeteran Unlike Nexus Mods, which runs every single ZIP

"Warning: I clicked the big green 'Download' button and got a fake McAfee popup. The actual link is the small text below the ad. The site is safe if you know how to read. Newbies will get owned."u/ModderDave "I've downloaded about 30 Sims 4 'minor fixes'

"Don't use it. I downloaded a patch for Fallout New Vegas. My antivirus caught a Trojan:Win32/Wacatac. Might be a false positive, but I'm not risking my PC for a mod."u/VegasSurvivor

MinorPatch.com uses aggressive ad networks. User reports (via Reddit r/Piracy and r/Software) indicate that clicking anything on the site triggers pop-ups claiming "Your Flash is out of date" or "Your PC has 4 viruses."
