Motorola Gm160 Programming Software -

The Motorola GM160 is a commercial-grade two-way radio, and its programming software is not the same as the consumer-friendly CPS (Customer Programming Software) used for later MOTOTRBO models. It requires legacy software often referred to as RSS (Radio Service Software) – specifically designed for the GM series.

| Problem | Likely Cause | Solution | |--------|--------------|----------| | “Communication refused” | Wrong COM port or radio not in program mode | Some GM160s require ignition sense +12V on pin 10 of accessory connector | | “Codeplug too new/old” | CPS version mismatch | Use R05.16 – earlier versions can’t read newer codeplugs | | Radio powers off after write | Invalid checksum | Re-write with correct frequency range; ensure band limits respected | | Software crashes on launch | Windows 10/11 compatibility | Run in Windows 7 compatibility mode + disable DPI scaling | motorola gm160 programming software

Once you have the software installed and the cable connected: The Motorola GM160 is a commercial-grade two-way radio,

  • Edit Frequencies: Navigate to the channel table. Enter your desired RX (Receive) and TX (Transmit) frequencies.
  • Write to Radio: Click "Write". Do not interrupt the process.
  • Before downloading anything, it is critical to understand that the GM160 belongs to Motorola’s "Professional Series" (specifically the GM300 series lineage). Unlike the later GM340 or GM360 which used Windows-based CPS (Customer Programming Software), the GM160 is programmed exclusively via DOS-based RSS (Radio Service Software) or very early 16/32-bit Windows applications. Edit Frequencies: Navigate to the channel table

The golden rule: You cannot use Motorola’s modern "CPS" (usually version 16 or 20) designed for the XPR or APX series. You need legacy software.

    | Feature | Detail | | :--- | :--- | | Software Name | Motorola GM Series CPS (or Kenwood KPG-44D) | | OS Requirement | Windows XP / 98 (Use a VM for modern PCs) | | Cable Type | RJ45 Front Port (RIB or RIB-less USB cable) | | Clone Mode | Yes, radio-to-radio cloning is possible via specific button combos. | | Max Channels | Depends on model, typically 8 or 128 channel models exist. |
