EDIUS has historically been praised for its stability and native support for various formats, but its default transition library was often utilitarian. Hollywood FX provided a solution by offering hundreds of pre-set 3D transitions, such as page curls, spinning cubes, and particle wipes. For EDIUS users, the plugin served as a bridge to more stylized editing without requiring complex 3D animation software. The "PVS System" specifically refers to the bundled installation architecture that allowed these effects to communicate with host editing platforms.
EDIUS is famous for its proprietary "Canopus HQ" codec and its ability to edit multiple layers of video in real-time without rendering. However, EDIUS’s native transition library has always been somewhat utilitarian. Editors wanted Hollywood FX inside EDIUS.
Step 1: Disable UAC & Antivirus Temporarily

Step 2: Run the Setup as Admin
Right-click your downloaded Hollywood_FX_Pro...exe → Properties → Compatibility → Check "Run this program in compatibility mode for Windows 7" AND "Run as Administrator".
Step 3: Choose the Correct Plug-in Path
During installation, the installer will ask for the "Host Application Path". You must manually browse to: EDIUS has historically been praised for its stability
C:\Program Files\Grass Valley\EDIUS [Your Version]\
Do not use the default "Pinnacle" path. Point it directly to the EDIUS root folder.
Step 4: The Serial Key
If prompted for a serial (common for v6.0), use the generic OEM key:
HFX60-11111-11111-11111-11111 (Note: This only unlocks basic transitions; Pro versions require a dongle which is no longer available). Do not use the default "Pinnacle" path
Step 5: Copy the "Plugins" Folder
After installation, navigate to:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Pinnacle\Hollywood FX\Plugins
Copy the hfxiEDIUS.prm file to:
C:\Program Files\Grass Valley\EDIUS [Version]\PlugIn\
Step 6: Registry Tweak (Critical for Windows 10/11)
Open regedit and navigate to:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Pinnacle Systems\Hollywood FX\6.0
Create a new DWORD (32-bit) named DisableGPUCheck and set it to 1. This prevents crashes on modern Intel/NVIDIA GPUs.
