Spongebob And Plankton Time Travel Now

The frequency of time travel in the series has had lasting effects on the continuity of the show:

With SpongeBob SquarePants renewed for Season 14 and 15, the possibility of another SpongeBob and Plankton time travel episode is high. The writers have teased a potential "Time Chum" episode where Plankton creates a clone of himself from the past, only for the past Plankton to side with SpongeBob because the "old days" were simpler.

Furthermore, the upcoming Plankton: The Movie (set for a 2025 release on Netflix) is rumored to involve a multiversal or time-hopping heist. Given that the main series has already explored oceans, space, dreams, and storybooks, time travel is the final frontier for the world’s smallest villain.

When you introduce time travel, Plankton sees a logical tool: "Go back to before Mr. Krabs had the formula, steal it, return." SpongeBob, however, sees a playground: "Look at the dinosaurs! Look at the future! Look at the talking sandwiches!"

This friction is the engine of the narrative. Plankton’s high-stakes villainy is constantly derailed by SpongeBob’s innocent wonder, leading to timelines where Plankton accidentally befriends his own ancestors or SpongeBob becomes the ruler of a post-apocalyptic Bikini Bottom.
