Indo: The Dictator Sub
Generalissimo Abdi Tandjung (played by a comedic actor like Tora Sudiro or Reza Rahadian in a bald cap and fake beard) rules the fictional mineral-rich nation of "Nusa Besi" with an iron fist — and an absurdly lavish mustache. He wears gold-plated sandals, has a personal orchestra follow him to the bathroom, and believes "democracy" is a type of spicy noodle dish.
When a UN delegation arrives to pressure him into stepping down, Abdi refuses — but his conniving American-educated advisor, Maya (played by Putri Marino), tricks him into flying to Jakarta for what he thinks is a "diplomatic summit." In reality, it’s a trap to depose him.
Upon landing at Soekarno-Hatta Airport, Abdi is ambushed by anti-dictator protesters. In the chaos, his iconic beard and uniform are torn off. He wakes up in a cramped kost (boarding house) in a busy kampung in East Jakarta, wearing a faded Metallica shirt and flip-flops.
Enter Sari (played by Shenina Cinnamon), a witty, hot-tempered activist who leads a small community organization fighting eviction by a corrupt real estate developer. She finds Abdi mumbling orders at a kucing (cat) and assumes he’s a lost foreigner with amnesia — probably a hapless Dutch tourist. The Dictator Sub Indo
Hilarity ensues as Abdi tries to reassert his dictatorial habits in a warung (street food stall), ordering the bakso seller to be his minister of soup, and attempting to execute a ojek driver for not bowing. Sari, thinking it’s all a bizarre performance art piece, plays along — but soon discovers the truth.
Meanwhile, Maya and the developer (a slimy tycoon played by Mathias Muchus) realize Abdi is alive and want to silence him before he exposes their scheme to steal Nusa Besi’s rare earth minerals.
In the climax, Abdi must choose: return to power as a puppet, or help Sari and her community fight their own "dictator" — the developer. The final scene takes place in a chaotic people’s protest, where Abdi gives a speech using his dictator flair, but this time for the people. He ends up staying in Jakarta, becoming the most overqualified satpam (security guard) in the neighborhood, still barking orders but now protecting a kantin instead of a country.
