Xlcompare Portable Install May 2026
A portable application does not force file associations. This means double-clicking an .xls or .xlsx file will still open Microsoft Excel. To compare a file, you must open XLCompare first and use the "Open" dialogs within the app. This is actually a benefit, as it prevents interfering with your standard Excel workflow.
Install XLCompare normally on a computer where you have admin rights. Use the default installation path (C:\Program Files\XLCompare).
These commercial tools create "application virtualization" packages. They capture the installation process and repackage it into a single portable executable. This is overkill for most users but essential for enterprise deployment.
A "portable" application is a version of software that does not require a formal installation process. It doesn't write settings to the Windows Registry or spread files across your system folders. xlcompare portable install
